.
What are the benefits of using Flex-Guard?
Since 1992
- Superior Crack Isolation. Isolates up to 3/8" lateral subfloor movement with full floor installations.
- Permeable. Helps eliminate moisture in the home. Get rid of the water, you get rid of moisture problems. See PDF articles.
- LifeTime Fracture Free Warranty. You may use your favorite ANSI 118.4 or ANSI 118.11 or fulfilling reuqirements for your tile.
- Very Fast to Install. No primer is needed. Keep more of your money. Save on materials and labor costs.
-
- With a 50 pound floor roller or the flat side of your trowel, apply pressure to the top side of the fabric to bond in place.
How much water remains in a typical concrete slab after it cures?
After concrete cures there typically remains 2-3 pounds of water PER SQUARE FEET! 1,000SF = 2-3000lbs of water. That is just the 'water of
convienence" at remains, even if a vapor barrier under the concrete slab. This is really not good if there is NOT a vapor barrier UNDER the slab.
If with vapor barrier and a hard trowel concrete fininsh, it may months or years to migrate into walls.
Where does all this water go?
Good question. Amazingly, the question has been largely avoided or none existant.
The primary goal over the years was to stop floor tiles cracking due to horizontal movement in the sub-floor.
Migration of moisture to the edge of a waterproof membrane has been ignored for decades.
Sealing the surface of a concrete slab in a house is NOT a good idea, unless you have a need for
for top down waterproofing. Most membranes are not designed to upward moisture or vapor.
Sealing the surface with an anti-fracture/crack isolation
waterproofing/vapor barrier might be a bad thing?
Moisture migration into walls, baseboards, cabinets drywall or adjacent flooring adds to the millions and millions of dollars of loss per year.
What seemed to be a "great idea" of wateproofing the surface with materials that were designed for other applications in buiding industry. Many of the products fail
at very low MVT (Moisture Vapor Transmission of 2-5lbs/24hr/1,000SF. A "normal" tile installation is usuall not affected by 10-15lbs/24hrs/1,000SF. Flex-Guard is typcially
+30lbs/24hrs/1,000. The purpose is to allow evaporation and not moisture forming condensation to liquid water that can migrate. Moisture testing is still advisible. An ideal
compatible system is with vapor barrier under the slab and Flex-Guard on the surface!
Is Flex-Guard fast to install?
Very Fast! on a clean, dry surface 500 can be installed and ready for tile in about 15-20 minutes or less! See video here;
So Flex-Guard has the best warranty?
YES! We have a LifteTime perfornance gurantee. Flex-Guard will isolate lateral movement of the substrate
up to 3/8" for full floor installations. Other competitors now use my terminalogy, but most the time the
fine print is just a "product defect warranty" and not a Performance Warranty.
Do I overlap the seams?
Do not overlap the material, just butt the seams together.
Do I need a primer?
Flex-Guard and Speed-Flex were designed to be primerless.
How long has Flex-Guard Products, Inc. been in business?
Since 1992. Many millions of Flex-Guard crack isolation has been installed across the united states
